POLOKWANE – The Seshego Buy-Back Centre has been officially launched through a collaboration between Coca-Cola South Africa and the Matongoni group in Seshego on Friday, 6 December.
The centre serves as a recycling plant where residents can drop off waste items which can be recycled at a fee per kilogram. Founder of the centre, Aubrey Magodi says that he hopes that the residents around the area can see how much of a difference collecting waste can make in the community.
He says that the investment by Coca-Cola will go a long way but residents can also play their part by recycling waste materials in their homes. He says that it would be ideal if the waste is separated at source by the residents and the buy-back centre would go them for collection. He added that not a lot of people see the worth of waste.
He says that they urge people to separate and recycle their waste at home, then bring it to the buy-back centre for money. Aubrey says they have a set amount which will be paid for the waste per kilogram and it is higher than their competitors. Aubrey has urged members of the community to recycle and bring their items to the centre.
He says the following items can be brought:
• Milk bottles.
• Cardboard boxes.
• Cans.
• Clear plastics.
• Lotion and toiletry plastics.
Aubrey says that residents can also come to the centre to gain more knowledge on the industry as a whole. He says that people need to be more educated on what to bring or recycle. He says that they could also get an opportunity to learn how the waste materials are turned into new items.
