[VIDEO] Terminated contracts: health workers stage protest

Contract health workers who reportedly received letters of termination staged a protest outside the Department of Health offices on Monday morning.

POLOKWANE – It is alleged the department said in a letter that their services will be terminated as from 2020 due to lack of departmental funds.

This after the department issued appointment letters to 774 successful candidates last week. In a statement the department said these posts for support staff were advertised in August and the department was able to fill them despite their current strenuous financial situation.

Gerald Twala, Provincial Secretary for the Congress of South African Trade Union (Cosatu) addressed the masses.

Jacob Adams, Provincial Chairperson of The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) said the department must come up with a solution as health workers cannot be faced with the same problem year in and year out.

MEC Phophi Ramathuba accepted the memorandum and signed it.
