Vodacom Limpopo Region partnered with Enthroned Ministries in hosting their eighth annual three-day gathering of ambassadors for aspiring young women leaders at Die Drift from Friday until Sunday.
Vodacom sponsored the gathering after realising that it was a great platform for young women to be groomed, taught and guided on their careers. Vodacom Limpopo Region Marketing Specialist Portia Mbokazi indicated that she shared some exciting tools and Applications (Apps) Vodacom offers. She outlined that these include Vodacom e-School App which allows Grade 8 to12 learners who are Vodacom subscribers to access classroom content, which is curriculum aligned on their mobile device across all major subjects for free, as the African mobile communications company has zero-rated browsing on the site for its customers.
Mbokazi further revealed another amazing programme being the Vodacom ‘Code like a Girl’ programme which aims to develop coding skills and valuable life skills for girls aged between 14 to 18 years, and encourages them to consider the uptake of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. The company in partnership with the South African Police Service recently launched the crime-fighting App that allows people to report criminal activities, Mbokazi explained. She was delighted with the gathering and reiterated that Vodacom was looking forward to partner with Enthroned Ministries on a larger scale next year.
She was accompanied by her colleague, Vodacom Limpopo Region Customer Experience Specialist Mashudu Raduvha, who also encouraged young women to be career driven, persevere and chase after their dreams. Vodacom sponsored mouthwatering meals, drinks and also handed out goodie bags to all the attendees.
Enthroned Ministries Public Relations Officer (PRO) Selaelo Makakase informed Polokwane Observer that the ministry is an interdenominational faith based institution founded by her mother, Mphata Makakase as an advocacy mechanism to reach out, empower, and develop young women to triumph against all odds of life using Biblical principles. Since its birth in 2012, Enthroned Ministries has seen tremendous growth in the development of young women who took part in the ministry activities, she stated.
The annual conference included ‘The Quintessential Night of Eminence’ which is a gala dinner sponsored by Vodacom, Bible studies, praise night and a vital session called ‘World Impact’ that has enabled the young women attendees to be exposed to the world of work done by Mahlogonolo Mengwai, a founder of Citizens Connect Program (CCP), entrepreneurial opportunities and life coping skills, Selaelo added.
“The convention also took notice of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on Sunday when a special prayer for African women and the girl child was conducted. This year we saw the likes of Vodacom being in the forefront of sponsoring the convention as well as impacting the lives of the young women attendees from all spheres of life through a motivational talk by Mbokazi. Provincial and local pastors, bishops and reverent who are the pillars of the ministry also received appreciation gifts,” Selaelo explained and concluded by saying Enthroned Ministries will continue to provide developmental and empowerment activities to young women in ensuring that they are activate participants in the current global socio-economic dynamics.
