The continuous Festive Season operations by law enforcers brought about the arrest of almost 2 000 suspects in nine days.
Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo indicated that since the launch of the operations on 25 November a total of 1 860 suspects have been arrested on various charges across the province.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 56, were apprehended on charges ranging from possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, contravention of the Liquor Act, contravention of the Road Traffic Act, assault, public drinking, murder, rape, burglary to malicious damage to property, Mojapelo indicated.
He added that the operations included roadblocks, stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols and tracing of wanted suspects. Thus far a total of 6 614 vehicles were tested and 444 summonses were issued.
During the operations 17 dangerous weapons, 14 firearms, ten vehicles and 67 rounds of live ammunition were confiscated.
Provincial Police Commissioner Nneke Ledwaba commended all operatives for their effort and urged them to escalate the momentum until everyone in the province is and feels safe during the Festive Season and beyond.
