What the ‘fibre’ is going on? Here is what you need to know

Frog Foot is currently installing optic fibre cables in and around Polokwane. Bonus spoke to Frog Foot's Key Account Representative, Karabo Mathe to explain the process

POLOKWANE – Frog Foot is currently installing optic fibre cables in and around Polokwane, that will allow residents to choose from 60 service providers for their online connection to the virtual world.

Frog Foot’s Key Account Representative, Karabo Mathe, says fibre is a stable infrastructure that will upgrade internet connectivity from ADSL cables to a glass-like cable that will enable faster internet speed. He said a boundary box will be installed in every household, where residents can access the fibre from.

Mathe says the project in the city has a completion date of June 2020, from where they will consider rolling it out to areas including Seshego and Mankweng.

According to Mathe, they have been commissioned to provide 10 000 households in Polokwane and are currently working in Welgelegen and Bendor.

Karabo Mathe says that fibre provides fast internet connectivity.

Mathe explained the process that residents will go through in order to get connected:

1. The cables go live.

2. Residents choose a service provider.

3. Choose a package from the service provider.

4. Pipeline is connected from boundary box to the house through a consumer premise equipment.

5. Connect to Wifi router (supplied by service provider).

6. Connect devices.
