Ongoing Operation Corolla nets another four ‘corrupt’ test station examiners

Four examiners of privately-owned testing station in the Thohoyandou area were arrested on Monday.

LIMPOPO – This was part of Operation Corolla, which is conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in collaboration with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department and the Special Investigative Unit (SIU).

The four examiners, aged between 24 and 29, were arrested in Makwarela outside Thohoyandou. It is alleged that the accused issued roadworthy certificates for vehicles which were never brought to the testing station for physical examination, says Spokesperson for the Hawks, Capt Matimba Maluleke.

All four people have since appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court  on charges of fraud and corruption and were granted bail of R1 000 each and the cases postponed to 21 January.

These arrests come after five officials of privately-owned testing station were arrested for fraud on Friday, 22 November in Marble Hall.

The officials, aged between 24 and 45, are alleged to have issued roadworthy certificates for vehicles which were never brought to the station for physical examination. These officials have since appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court. The court outcome is not known.
