LIMPOPO – A 34-year-old man arrested for attempting to smuggle explosive materials into South Africa will appear in the Musina Magistrates Court soon on a charge of possession of explosive materials.
The accused from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe was arrested at the Beit Bridge Port of Entry on Thursday, 21 November after he was found in possession of blasting cartridges (explosive gel) which were hidden inside four-gallon containers. He told the official on duty that the drums contained oil and he was directed to the baggage scanner where it was discovered that the containers were filled with 398 pieces of blasting cartridges, said Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo.
The motive for the accused’s actions is not known at this stage and police investigations are ongoing.
