Polokwane Home Affairs official arrested for selling birth certificates to foreigners out on bail

Provincial Hawks Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke says the man sold birth certificates to their undercover police on numerous occasions.

POLOKWANE – A 48-year-old Home Affairs Official was granted R1 000 bail in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier today, says Spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Matimba Maluleke.

The official was arrested in the city on Friday for allegedly selling birth certificates to foreign nationals. His case was postponed to 31 January for further investigation.

POLOKWANE – A 48-year-old Home Affairs Official is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 18 November on charges of fraud and corruption following his arrest on Friday morning, 15 November by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Team.

The man was arrested for allegedly selling birth certificates to foreign nationals.

“The Hawks received a tip-off that the Immigration Officer at the Polokwane Home Affairs branc, was selling birth certificates to foreign nationals for R6 000, each. The man sold birth certificates to our undercover police on numerous occasions,” says Spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke.

He added that an investigation to establish if the man is involved in other fraud and corrupt activities is underway and more arrests are expected.
