One due in court for possession of rhino horns in Modimolle

The accused was arrested in Modimolle on Friday, 15 November during operation "Loreal".

LIMPOPO – A 25-year-old man arrested for possession of rhino horns will appear in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court today, says the police.

The accused was arrested in Modimolle on Friday, 15 November during operation “Loreal”, an operation which comprised members from the Modimolle Crime Intelligence Unit, the Modimolle Crime Prevention Unit and the Endangered Species Unit.

Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said the members received a tip-off about a man in possession of wild animal parts at a local filling station. The team approached the man at around 10:00 and conducted a search whereby they found two rhino horns concealed in a plastic bag inside a backpack. The horns are valued at around R210 000, he added.

The relentless effort in the fight against rhino poaching and the protection of endangered species continues.
