Revenge attack leads to 25 years imprisonment for young man

25-year-old Liremi Thompho Eugine was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment by the Thohoyandou High Court for murder on Wednesday 13 November.

LIMPOPO – Thompho stabbed Phathutshedzo Siebana (33) to death on 24 March 2018.

According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Brig Motlefela Mojapelo the accused stabbed the deceased in an act of revenge. The accused received information that his brother had been killed on the said day and when he rushed to the scene, he spotted the alleged culprit, chased him down and without hesitation stabbed him to death with a beer bottle.

Mojapelo said that Thompo was arrested at the scene.

A case of murder was opened and assigned to Det Sgt Patricia Tshivhula from the Mphephu Police Station to investigate. Her team’s work led to the hefty sentence meted out to the accused.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has lauded Tshivhula and her teams’ hard work. Ledwaba concluded that this heavy jail term will send a message to those who disregard the law by resorting to violence and take the law into their own hands, that they will face harsh consequences.
