Shaping her future one mani, pedi at a time

Minah Lelahane is a shining example of what self-empowerment is all about.

POLOKWANE – The 42-year-old from Seshego zone 5 is the owner of M Beauty Salon at Ladanna Tropicana Building. Lelahane vows that she will never go to bed hungry while she has two hands.

The salon opened its doors in July and specialises in natural hair, manicures and pedicures.

The mother of three holds a diploma in computer and business studies from the Limpopo Computer College, as well as a certificate in basic ambulance assistance from De-Vries Academy.

“I fell in love with hair in 1993 when I visited various salons.

“After realising that I have the necessary skills, I decided to open my own salon. I do not want to be dependent as long as I have both hands. It is not easy to run a business such as this one as there are many salons around. It needs patience and passion,” said Lelahane.

She loves to make her clients look beautiful. Her biggest dream is to own a big hair salon in the province.

“I would like to see my business grow and I want to own a big franchise one day. My mission is to create a salon which caters to every individual and to elevate the structure and views of the hair industry. I am happy that I have created employment for four people and I want to turn my salon into a training facility.

“I realised that the community in Ladanna, Emdo, Mahlasadi Park and Rethabile Garden travel to town to have their hair styled and thought I should bring the salon to their door step,” she said.

Lelahane encourages the youth to stand up and do things for themselves.

“You can use your own hands to create anything that can put food on the table. If you went to school or not does not mean you cannot survive in this world,” she concluded.
