Five learners die as car overturns

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after five learners were killed when a vehicle overturned on the R574 between Groblersdal and Mpudulle on Tuesday.
Provincial Police Communications Head Motlafela Mojapelo indicated that the learners, all girls and aged between 15 and 18, were attending AM Mashego Secondary School in Monsterlus.
He said the girls were hitch-hiking home at around 14:00 when they were picked up by a driver in a Nissan NP200 bakkie.
The driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle causing it to overturn several times and the five learners being fatally injured. The driver and his passenger were critically injured and taken to a local hospital.
The learners were identified as Beauty Motsweni, Pearl Rakgalakane, Lucy Monareng, Chantel Monareng and Karabo Mogoaneng.
Investigations continue.
