Masakaneng residents ecstatic over development in the area

Residents of Masakaneng settlement outside Groblersdal in the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality expressed delight over the smooth running of the area's roads and stormwater construction project.

POLOKWANE – The residents said they were ecstatic to see the municipality finally delivering on its promise to develop the area. They said the area was inaccessible due to the poor roads conditions they had been faced with for years since the formation of the settlement.

Deejay Ledwaba, a community leader, said the project was running smoothly and residents were happy with its progress. Ledwaba said there were groups of people who sought to disrupt the commencement of the project, but residents stood together and ensured proper progress. Ledwaba said apart from the development of the area, the community stood to benefit from the project as it brought with it the employment of locals.

“We are happy to see service delivery in our area and our people being employed. When we see projects such as this reaching Masakaneng, we become confident that we will also have access to other amenities such as schools and water.”

Simon Makua, the municipality’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, said the project, at a cost of R19 million, commenced in August this year and was envisaged for completion in February 2020.

Makua said the designed length of the road was 4km and would be surfaced using concrete segmented blocks with a V-drain.
