Provincial government warn of scam using the Premier’s name

A social media post by the "Premier" urges people to invest R3 000 for "greater rewards".

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Provincial Government has sent a warning regarding a scam doing the rounds on social media disguised as Premier Chupu Mathabatha’s account.

The social media post urges people to invest R3 000 cash for “greater rewards” and Acting Chief Director of Communication Services, Mamogo Ntuli says although it is profiled by Mathabatha’s picture, it is not his account.

As victims have been approached with the scam, one social media user took to Facebook to express her thoughts saying “People think we are stupid. Imagine the whole premier trying to scam us di (of) R3000 and calling us (bo) ‘Sesi’. …Go try students”. The user attached a screenshot of the conversation.

“It is a fake account created by mischievous people who are out to deceive and rob our people of their hard-earned money. Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha is the servant leader of Limpopo Province and will never be involved in anything that would derail developmental aspirations of the people of this province,” Ntuli explained.

She adds that the Premier calls on all to be vigilant and to not fall prey to these scams. “Please spread the message and let us help law enforcement agencies to bring these perpetrators to book,” her statement read.
