Here’s how you can volunteer at Cansa this Cancer Awareness Month

As much as volunteering helps the people who need it, it also gives the volunteer a sense of fulfilment.

POLOKWANE – This October is Cancer Awareness month and in light of that, Review went in search of how to become a volunteer and join Cansa in their active fight against cancer. One of the first things to note before becoming a volunteer is that you’re doing it from the goodness of your heart, you don’t get paid for it and although you don’t require any qualifications to volunteer, preference is given to those with own transport.

When volunteering, you can help with collecting data, fundraising, educational programmes and developing training material. You can also volunteer to help those affected by cancer by providing physical, emotional support and giving practical assistance with physical work. There is also the option of volunteering to do admin such as taking calls and general office work.

As a volunteer, you will be expected to stick to the contract and the task description in your contract. Being out there, you represent Cansa and need to constantly be mindful of that. Give sufficient notice if ever you want to leave, for example going on holiday and an important factor is adhering to the confidentiality agreements. As much as volunteering helps the people who need it, it also gives the volunteer a sense of fulfilment, you grow as a person and it also gives the opportunity to meet new people and make friends. It is also a great platform to expand horizons and explore different career options from the exposure volunteering gives you.

Should you wish to volunteer, you can contact Cansa Polokwane at  015 297 1268 or fill in their volunteer application form, here.
