Bull ready to step into boxing ring after a four year break

Mahomed Ali Salman's boxing licence was withdrawn after he was charged with attempted murder. The case has since been provisionally withdrawn

LIMPOPO – The 2016 Common Wealth Games Gold medalist, Mahomed Ali Salman, is back in the boxing-ring after a four year break.

The Bull as he is known in the boxing circles is ready to step in the ring, a year after his boxing licence was withdrawn after he was charged with attempted murder.

The case against Salman was provisionally withdrawn; due to a lack of evidence.

Born in Pakistan, he discovered his passion for boxing at the age of 10 and turned to professional boxing in 2010, making his way up the South African middleweight boxing ranks.

He began his professional boxing career with the help of Phathutshedzo Dongola of Champ Boxing Promotion.

He is back, this time in the super middleweight division. He said to represent South Africa at the Commonwealth Games was a dream come true.

“I was ranked seventh in Africa. I was on probation for a year which did not allow me to participate in boxing. I tried my level best to train even though I was on probation.

“The sponsors who left me have now started to engage with me again. It has been a rough year for me,” Salman said.

He said that he is ready to deliver a big boxing performance.

“I already spoke to Vincent Mulaudzi from Vhembe who wants to challenge me. I grew up in a rainbow nation and sports has no colour.

“It does not matter whether you are black or white, the colour of our hearts are the same. I am ready to fight and climb the ladder as a sportsman,” he said.

He added that he would like to make it onto the African rankings list.

“I have started to engage with big promoters and have looked for opponents such as Isaac Chilembe from Malawi.

“My biggest supporter is my dad, Hamid Salman. He has always supported me in whatever I wanted to achieve and he introduced me to the sport in 2010.

“At my first fight, the announcer introduced me as Muhammad Ali. South Africa has a lot of talent, we should use it,” he explains.
