Thohoyandou sibling death: Social workers dispatched to area to provide support
An eight-year-old girl fell off a maskeshift bridge and plunged into a water-filled ditch below. Her brother (10) jumped in after in an attempt to save her.
LIMPOPO – Social Workers from the Department of Social Development have been dispatched to Mulendane, outside Thohoyandou to provide psychological support to the family of two siblings who died on Saturday, 12 October.

Four siblings were walking over a make-shift wooden bridge to cross a ditch when an eight-year-old girl fell off and plunged into a water-filled ditch below. Her brother (10) jumped in after in an attempt to save her. Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that both siblings died on the scene and the other two siblings ran home to request help.
MEC, Nkakareng Rakgoale says she was shocked by the news and has urged parents to always know the whereabouts of their children and not leave them unsupervised.
Mojapelo added that it is not clear at this stage if the deceased drowned or died as a result of the falling. “This will be determined by unfolding police investigations,” he said.
