POLOKWANE – Dry conditions and a change in climate have been the cause of several wildfires in Limpopo in the past week.

A video, sent to Review, shows the extent of those wildfires with a current fire raging in the Bela Bela area.
Working on Fire (WOF) took to social media to say that a chopper and a spotter have been dispatched for the suppression of the Mabalingwe Fire.

“WOF firefighters from across the province are busy attending to six fires currently burning,” their tweet read.
Last week Monday, WOF declared a massive fire in the Modimolle-Middelfontein area, ‘Code Orange’, after it reduced visibility on the N1 and parts of the R101.

Since the beginning of the 2019 winter fire season, WOF has responded to 88 fires with 5 000 ha lost.
