Music mogul Simon Cowell signs Ndlovu Youth Choir

Choir director Ralf Schmitt made the announcement during an interview with Joanne Joseph on radio 702 on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – The Ndlovu Youth Choir are the latest signing to Syco Music and Sony Music in South Africa. Choir director Ralf Schmitt made the announcement during an interview with Joanne Joseph on radio 702 on Thursday.

The choir, who are still celebrating their success following their stint on America’s Got Talent, say they have exciting projects that they are working on. “We are very excited that Simon Cowell and his company have exercised the option to sign the choir, together with Sony Music in South Africa, we are working on some very exciting projects,” Schmitt told Joseph.

He added that being signed is a wonderful compliment to the young people in the choir because (Cowell) wouldn’t do that if he didn’t think there was a future for them.

Sandile Majola, a member of the choir, told Joseph that taking part in the show was a dream come true and they were grateful for the opportunity and the way things turned out.

On Monday, the choir received a R1 million cheque from the Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture of which half will go to the choir members and the other half to develop their music programme.

The choir, from Moutse in Groblersdal, made the country proud when they advanced to the finals of America’s Got Talent, but their journey came to an end last week after American, Kodi Lee, who is blind and autistic, was crowned the season 14 winner.
