UPDATE: 10 of 11 people killed in R37 collision identified

The incident happened on Sunday, 22 September near the Chuene Resort on the road between Polokwane and Burgersfort.

LIMPOPO – 10 of the 11 people, who lost their lives in the horror head-collision which happened on the R37 road near the Chuene Resort on Sunday, have been identified, confirmed Police Spokesperson, Const Maphure Manamela in a statement on Wednesday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Fidelity Security vehicle and the FAW SUV collided head-on after the one vehicle lost control due to a burst tyre. The Fidelity vehicle, with two occupants, was driving towards Polokwane and a FAW SUV, with unknown number of passengers, which was driving in the direction of Lebowakgomo. No occupants from either of the vehicles survived the collision, Manamela said.

Seven men and four women lost their lives in the collision. One of the deceased has not yet been identified but the remaining 10 have been identified as follows: Paulus Erastus (53) a Fidelity Security employee from Namibia, Mafokoane Celestar (25) from Koppermyn, Nkgapele Siphesihle (22) from Capetown, Letsoalo Paul Matuba (20) from Koppermyn, (driver) Phokela Tebatso Thosago (40) from Koppermyn,  Sathekge Raisibe Dina (29) from Ga-Matlala, Rebecca Raesetja Seshoka (29) from Matobole Ga-Maja, Elizabeth Lesetja Mashapa (31) from Seshego, Moganoa Johnny Maja (32) from Koppermyn and Motloutsi Flora (26) from Matabole Ga-Maja.

Police investigations still continue.
