Malamulele business robbery: Two arrested after police chase

The two accused were arrested in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou, after they robbed a business in Malamulele on Wednesday, 25 September.

LIMPOPO – In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Const Maphure Manamela said the police received a tip-off from the community about unknown persons driving around Dzwerani Village and who were in possession of firearms. Upon approach the duo sped off but after the police gave chase, with the support from the airwing unit, they were apprehended.

During the arrest, the police recovered two firearms, seven rounds of ammunition, a magazine and other items believed to be the ones robbed in Malamulele. The bakkie in which they were travelling  was also confiscated, Manamela added.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered vehicle was hijacked in the Waterval Policing area and further investigations will determine the origin of the recovered firearms and possibly link the accused to other offences.

The duo, aged 31 and 41, are expected to appear in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property. They will also appear in Waterval  for carjacking and in Malamulele for business robbery.
