Sumehra de Bruyn of Stanford Lake College (SLC), took part in the Dance Division of the 2019 MDDA Eisteddfod hosted by Merensky High School recently.
She took a second place (94%) in the Spectacular Spinners Solo (16 years and older) category with her solo dance choreographed by Lene Van Zyl. The dance was composed of a mixture of styles, mostly contemporary.
She chose the song ‘Put it on me’ by Matt Maeson.
Sumehra and her dance partner, Merensky High School learner Samuel Loughor-Clarke attained first place (96%) in their category, the Spectacular Spinners Duo (16 years and older). The dance was composed of a mixture of styles, mostly contemporary to the song by Sam Smith, ‘Fire on Fire’.
Beth Coetzee, SLC Marketer reports that Samuel and Sumehra’s achievement was remarkable as they only had three weeks to learn and perfect the piece. Samuel is actually a Hip-hop dancer, but accepted the challenge. Their duo was choreographed by Annemieke Osmers.
