Rudi wants to encourage others to speak up through his book ‘Forget’

Local entertainer Rudy Bessit's book is based on his upbringing and how he was raped and molested by at least three of his mother's boyfriends.

POLOKWANE – Local entertainer Rudy Bessit has added the title of author to his credentials. Bessit, who hails from Westenburg, is the founder and owner of Ru-Flow Productions.

He has a play entitled ‘A Hair Thingy’ and has featured on a reality show called Stereotype-Drop on SABC1. He explained that the journey has been amazing and exciting. “There have been many ups and downs and I’ve learnt a great deal, but I’m loving every step of the way. I’d be lying if I say that things are happening as I’ve planned. Sometimes nothing goes as planned and sometimes things just fall in place. The secret has been to just keep pushing,” he said.

His book, ‘Forget’ is based on his upbringing and how he was raped and molested by at least three of his mother’s boyfriends. He talks about feeling rejected and being mocked by his mother and one of his siblings, as a result of his experiences.

“I say at least three due to the fact that I may have suppressed more memories. My book also touches on my suicidal phases, and feelings of not belonging anywhere. It touches on my struggle with homosexuality and coming to terms with it,” he said. He also wanted to encourage people to open up, forgive and work on themselves so that they can flourish, he said.

“Writing about my experiences was painful and healing at the same time. I relived every moment I wrote about, but it came along with some peace and comfort; giving me the strength to move on. At first it frightened me that people would know my darkest secrets, but the fact that my story may save a life, kept me going,” he added.

He plans to start his own talk show, or documentary where he helps people tell their story and provide the necessary psychological assistance they need. He is currently writing his second book, ‘When I remembered’ which is a follow up on ‘Forget’.

“I’ve had a lot of memories come back to me after I wrote ‘Forget’. I’m also developing ‘Forget’ and ‘When I remembered’ into a screenplay/movie which I should be done with in 2020,” he concluded.
