Five enterprising and caring young women, all enrolled at Capricorn High School, continue to write their history as they raise money for the purpose of purchasing sanitary towels which they intend distributing to disadvantaged female learners in rural areas later this month.
Through their recent initiative called ‘Bereka Mosadi’, the group consisting of Tsebo Sekole (founder), Mahlogonolo Nkadimeng, Sagale Sodi, Mahlatse Talane and Refiloe Phala hosted Doek Day at the school where female learners had to pay R10 to wear a doek. The group with the assistance of Office of the Premier employee responsible for Transversal Employee Health and Wellness Programmes, Tlakale Nkadimeng managed to raise over R7 000 on the day. It was learnt that educators, male learners and young women who could not wear their doeks also supported the initiative.
Tlakale emphasised that the group was following in the footsteps of their big sisters Tshidi Nkadimeng, Mmabatho Matsheta, Malapele Sodi, Palesa Mapoulo, Dineo Mphahlele and others who started this initiative in 2015 and distributed sanitary products to learners in Ga-Molepo. She added that last year the distribution was made to learners at Lesetsi Primary School in Ga-Mphahlele in partnership with Limpopo First Lady Margaret Mathabatha, Footprints Foundation and Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality Mayor’s office.
Tlakale pointed out that they were planning to distribute the sanitary towels to young women in Sekhukhune, Mopani and Vhembe districts. She indicated that the fund raising event would be hosted at Pietersburg Comprehensive School soon, adding that they have also requested local wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane and Miss Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club 2011 winner, Rose Mantsho to be part of the campaign. Nkadimeng applauded the five young girls as she said “Inculcating the spirit of giving and caring at a young age was an amazing thing. Well done girls and you have full support from the Office of the Premier.”
