Learners and educators at Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (Pemps) got their hands dirty for a good cause when they celebrated Arbor Day by planting trees at the institution last Thursday.
Principal Desiré Conradie indicated that eight trees were planted on the day. She explained that they observed the day annually as they believe it was important to continue planting trees to replace those used to make paper. Pemps Grade R learners were also part of the celebration and planted two trees on their premises, according to Conradie.
It was learnt that trees that were planted included Apple-leaf and Marula, both 2019 Tree of the Year as well as Natal Mahogany and Karee. The plants were reportedly donated by the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism.
