8 arrested in Ga-Mphahlele for possession of stolen chrome
The accused were arrested during a police operation which was conducted on Saturday through to Monday, in the Lebowakgomo policing area.

LIMPOPO – In an endeavour to eradicate illegal mining in the province, members from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit followed up on a tip-off received from the local community about these illegal activities taking place in the Ga-Mphahlele area.
In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said eight people between the ages of 36 and 65 were arrested on charges of illegal mining and possession of suspected stolen chrome. During the operation the members confiscated seven trucks and a motor vehicle.

On Saturday, 14 September at around 20:00 the police received information about men who were mining illegally at Sefalaolo Village. They reacted, and six people were caught loading chrome at one of the mines and were arrested.

On Monday, 16 September 2019 the police arrested a further two people, aged 41 and 42, after they were found in possession of chrome which they had loaded onto a truck and a bakkie. Both vehicle were confiscated.
All eight accused are expected to appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court soon.
