Operation Wafa Wafa: 51 arrested for DUI’s and possession of counterfeit goods in Polokwane

The arrests were made during Operation Wafa Wafa, which formed part of a larger operation conducted by Limpopo police and focused on trio crimes.

POLOKWANE – Efforts made through ongoing intelligence-led joint operations continue to bear fruitful results in the fight against crime, says Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

This, after operation ‘Wafa Wafa’ led to the arrest of 45 motorists for driving under the influence. The operation, which recently took place in Polokwane, also saw six people arrested in possession of counterfeit goods including body lotions and cigarettes with an estimated value of R800 000. The goods were confiscated.

Meanwhile, in the Lephalale cluster, members of the Crime Intelligence Unit with Witpoort Detectives conducted an operation tracing a trio involved in burglaries at various schools in the area, earlier this month.

“The trio, aged 22, 23 and 32-year-old respectively, were nabbed at different locations and during the arrest, police recovered three laptops and nine tablets,” Ngoepe said.

In the Malipisdrift policing area, a 50-year-old man was arrested after being found in possession of stolen chrome in a truck. “Police acted on a tip-off and found the man near the R37 road. The truck and chrome were confiscated,” Ngoepe said.

The suspects will appear before the Polokwane, Lebowakgomo, and Lephalale Magistrate’s Courts on various charges.

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has commended all members involved and urged communities to continue working closely with police by providing them with quality and reliable information.
