‘Without water for weeks and municipality’s phones ring with no answer’

A resident of Seshego zone 8 claims he has been experiencing consistent water and electricity problems in the area.

POLOKWANE – The man alerted BONUS on the shortages that have been happening on a daily basis. He says they have been without water for a couple of weeks.

“I have called the municipality to find out what the cause of the shortage was, but the phones kept ringing with no answer.”

He says when he did eventually get hold of the reception office at the municipality the lady who answered the phone told him that she could not direct him to water affairs because the department was still busy. “She took my number and promised to call me back, but it has been two weeks and I am still waiting for her call.” The resident says he also attempted to speak to councillors in the area to establish if they had been informed of any water supply interruptions.

“If they had given us an indication, of the water issue or the shortages then we would rest assured knowing the issue is being attended to.” He says occasionally the water does come back but it is usually late at night, at around 22:00. “You have to check because sometimes the water is back and we must wake up to use it before it disappears again.”

Spokesperson for the Municipality, Thipa Selala said the municipality’s main water supplier is Lepelle Northern Water which has been experiencing a number of stoppages over the past weeks due to various challenges.

“Residents were notified through their ward councillors, the municipal website, media and social media platforms.” He said the municipality has a call centre that residents can use when they experience water challenges: (015) 290 2376 / 2629.
