The rift between structures of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Limpopo is ever so obvious, with one of the bodies choosing a new executive during its 7th provincial elective conference on Saturday while their opponents are preparing for a similar event coming up in three weeks’ time.
Rowdy conduct characterised the first part of the programme of the provincial conference of the structure led by Messina Masekoameng, when it met to elect its new leadership in Polokwane on Saturday. Masekoameng was reportedly elected as the structure’s Provincial Chairperson along with Progress Kutama as his deputy, Peter Mabunda as Provincial Secretary and Sipho Dikgale as his deputy. The newly elected Provincial Treasurer is Dorcas Nkosi, it was learnt.
The absence of conference documents saw a portion of delegates in attendance at Peter Mokaba Stadium displaying discontent at the onset of the programme that commenced around noon, despite being set for an initial early morning start.
With Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Provincial Secretary Gerald Twala seemingly coming to the rescue of delegates with the provision of copies of the required documentation, the stumbling block was eventually a hurdle out of the way for proceedings to continue in all earnest.
In his address later on Twala pledged support from Cosatu in the province to a united Sanco in Limpopo.
Among those delivering messages of support was African National Congress (ANC) Veterans’ League Provincial Chairperson Jacob Marule.
In the meantime the opposing interim Sanco provincial task team is preparing for its 7th provincial conference in Polokwane on 5 October. Documentation pertaining to its conference programme and regional conferences across the province was already forwarded a week ago. It included an adopted road map and guidelines for the upcoming provincial and regional conferences.
