Ramathuba says the night staff voluntarily offered their time to care for patients and the department would like to thank them for the ‘spirit of sacrifice and care’ which they displayed.
The department is grateful for the gesture made by these employees. “I am greatly encouraged by this gesture, they have demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that the biggest motivation in the department is nothing else but ensuring the well-being of the patients.”
Ambulances were also blocked and patients who needed medical attention were transported to nearby hospitals.
