Polokwane Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng officially launched the city’s 8th annual Literary Fair at the city library on Tuesday evening and said that the event is geared at advancing a Pan Africanist agenda through the arts and promoting a culture of agenda setting conversations.
Nkadimeng said that the event is an important asset and instrument that facilitates nation building, intra-generational and cultural dialogue and the preservation of aspects of the history and heritage of the Republic.

The fair acknowledges and celebrates artistic practitioners who have created iconic work in the sustenance and growth of indigenous languages comprises of a two-week long programme that takes place at various venues within the municipal area and started last Monday with a children’s programme with a Youth Parliament hosted in the municipal council chamber as one of the highlights. Other items on the agenda included book launches, exhibitions, music and live poetry performances that is scheduled to end on Friday. The fair also commemorates jazz icon and cultural ambassador, Hugh Masekela.
