She says although she initially wanted to be a doctor, she always knew she would end up in fashion. The idea of starting a children’s range came about her friends constantly complimented her on her how she dressed her two daughters. “They said they love how I dress my two girls and then they would go and buy the exact same outfits for their children.”

UNDI babies, named after a combination of her two daughters, Unarine and Ndivhuwo, caters for newborns to six years and was launched on 31 July. Every item is manufactured from scratch through her own designs. “I do not buy then re-sell, everything is made according to my specification.”

Dakalo says UNDI babies is one of the legacies she wants to leave for her daughters. “I hope my daughters will be independent and free-spirited, that they will appreciate the little things and explore at a young age.”

Dakalo says her clothing range is doing well and she sold half of the stock in the first month. “I want UNDI to become a household brand.”

She says she will never compromise on quality and service, which is why she prefers to do everything herself. The range offers all types of children’s clothes from active wear to sleeping garments and shoes, and is currently available at Unarine boutique at Thavhani mall and online @UNDI_babies.  You can also find UNDI babies on Facebook and Instagram @UNDI_babies.

Dakalo says she hopes to soon expand her brand to various retail stores.
