Pastor Kgomotso Mabugana preaches self-respect and self-worth

Pastor, Kgomotso Mabugana is also a businesswoman

POLOKWANE – “God revealed to me that a calling does not have to be stiff, boring and traditional. A calling can be spiritually fulfilling, add value to lives, bring hope, purpose, tons of fun and an exciting lifestyle.”

These are the words of Pastor, Kgomotso Mabugana who paves the way for young women in ministry. The bubbly and friendly pastor at Lighthouse Covenant Church describes herself as an introvert who occasionally comes out of her shell. “Making new friends comes naturally and I try my utmost to be kind,” she adds. Fun and funny form part of the long list of words which she uses to describe herself. She is married to senior Pastor, Holymike Mabugana.

She is also a businesswoman who owns a bridal boutique and events management company. She explained that before marriage, she was not a pastor but that she always knew that she was different. She played a vital role behind the scenes, running the ministry with her strong points being planning, organising and administration.

Mabugana added that despite her leadership skills as the first lady of her church, it is a role that she had to grow into over the years. “I have been in ministry for 15 years. In terms of leaderships and professionalism, I am sure that I was born with it but in terms of ministry and calling, I grew into it. My husband has been the mentor, pillar of support and inspiration and encourages the importance of being true to who you are and celebrating your uniqueness,” she said.

She is passionate about working with the community and improving people’s quality of life. The church gives food parcels and clothes to the needy as well as provides accommodation and support to students who are financially challenged. “We also provide counselling, mentoring young and old women in business as well as other areas. We also raise money to buy sanitary wear for school girls who struggle to afford them and we also provide life skills programmes,” she added.

Kgomotso draws inspiration from God’s word in all that she does and is passionate about young women and emphasises the importance of knowing who they are, their worth and purpose in life. She believes in raising more awareness about self-worth and self-respect as a woman, because what is not valued becomes abused. “The Bible says that above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers all wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always perseveres,” she concluded.
