Police arrested one suspect while two of his accomplices managed to evade arrest after an alleged robbery at a gambling outlet in the city on Friday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the suspect was expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
His arrest follows an incident on Friday at about 19:45 when Police were notified about a business robbery in progress at the gambling outlet within the city centre. They reacted swiftly but upon arrival at the scene the suspects had already fled.
They followed up all leads and traced a 32-year-old suspect not far from the scene while two others managed to escape, according to Ngoepe.
It is alleged that employees were about to close business for the day when three suspects insisted to gamble and suddenly produced firearms and forced their way into the building.
It is reported that they demanded the keys to the safe which employees were unable to provide. The suspects then allegedly used a grinder to open the mounted safe and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, Ngoepe indicated.
During the arrest Police recovered a firearm, cash and equipment assocated with housebreaking.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the other two suspects can contact investigating officer Linky Mathebula on 064 756 8218 or report to the nearest Police station.
