‘No one will intimidate you’ – Mogalakwena mayor

The Mokopane Task Team (MTT), Mogalakwena Concerned and Affected Communities (MCAC) and the South African National Civil Organisation (Sanco) last week vowed to shut down Mokopane yet again on 5 and 6 September as no feedback had been received on the memorandum given to the ANC National Deputy Secretary, Jesse Duarte on 16 August.

MOKOPANE – “I will walk the streets, and no one will bring the town to a standstill on Thursday and Friday.”

Mayor, Andrina Matsemela made this promise after meeting with the Mogalakwena Stakeholders on Monday. She added that there will be no shutdown and all municipal services will continue as normal. She assured residents that the police will be ‘on the lookout’.

Malesela Selokela, Municipal Spokesperson said in a statement that the mayor, who was in the company of EXCO members and DA Ward 31 Councillor, Yolande Coetzee, had a fruitful meeting with the various stakeholders who were given the opportunity to raise issues. Matsemela emphasised that it is the democratic right of all South Africans to march or protest but they do not have the right to infringe on others in the form of forcing them to close their businesses and preventing learners form going to schools. The taxi associations and Great North Bus Company confirmed that they will be ready and available to transport commuters.

“Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba assured us that this time they will protect you instead of protecting those who want to intimidate you,” said Matsemela.
