Traffic officers to monitor major routes as pilgrims make their way to Limpopo

The Moria Pilgrimage weekend coincides with month-end and motorists can expect busier than usual traffic volumes

LIMPOPO –  – The first week of September marks the consecration of the new year of the Zion Christian Church and large numbers of ZCC congregants are expected to travel to Limpopo this weekend.

In a statement, Transport and Community Safety MEC, Namane Dickson Masemola calls on all road users to exercise patience, tolerance and to obey the rules of the road in ensure a safe journey.

Those who travel on the N1 northbound from Gauteng to Limpopo are urged to exercise a high level of discipline and patience as the traffic volumes are expected to increase from Friday, 30 August and Sunday, 1 September on the southbound.

He further says motorists who travel from Gauteng to Moria can use the alternative Mokopane/Lebowakgomo D4040 (Boyne/Maja) road.

Masemola adds that traffic officers assisted by the National Traffic Police from RTMC will monitor all the major roads on a 24-hour basis. These include the N1 Brigade, R71, R81, R37 N11 and D19.

He reminds motorists to stay on high alert when entering Polokwane on either the N1 or R101 roads due to construction. Traffic officials will be on site to do point-duty.

“Our officers will continue to discharge their duties without fear or favor in an effort to preserve lives. A Zero Tolerance approach for those who do not obey the rules of the road will be the order of the day,” Masemola concludes.
