Limpopo First Lady Trust and First lady Margaret Mathabatha celebrated Women’s Month with woman living with disabilities from different areas in the province in Polokwane last Thursday.
Mathabatha explained that she decided to celebrate Women’s Month with women living with disabilities because most of them are marginalised and side-lined from economic opportunities, neglected by their communities and confronted with various challenges.
“The marginalisation of women living with disabilities is an injustice that should shame all of us. I believe in their abilities I know all that is required is for us to work together and support each other as women. They too deserve, love and support,” she said.
She lay emphasis on the fact that the economic emancipation of people living with disability is a demand that should be met without further delays. “We need to see more people living with disabilities in corporate boardrooms. Experience from all over the world has proved that people with disabilities are more than able to turn things around. Through the First Lady Trust we will continue to work with all women in this province to fight against abuse and to fight for equal socio-economic activities,” she insisted.
As part of the celebrations Mathabatha presented woman living with disabilities and heading different organisations catering for people with disabilities with food parcels and goodie bags.
