Ryno Eagar murdered a day after turning 30

Ryno Eagar (30) spent his last minutes on the steps in front of a church in Dorp Street, presumably looking for help.

POLOKWANE – Eager, who had turned 30 a day before, was last seen at his family home on the evening of Friday, 23 August.

His mother, Amelia Smit told Review that when the family woke up on Sunday morning, he was gone. He would often leave the house very early in the morning, walking as he did not have a car, she said.

Eagar’s body was found around 05:30 on the steps of a church in Dorp Street where it is presumed he tried to get help.

Smit explained that when she had to identify her son’s body she saw that his left arm had been bound with a dressing. “I am not sure if his arm was broken. We are waiting for the autopsy to find out.”

Constable Mienkie Ramakgoakgoa, a Spokesperson at the Police Communications Offices, confirmed that a case of murder is being investigated.

“The police were notified at around 05:30 on Saturday of an incident in the Drop Street area. On their arrival, people who were cleaning at the property alleged that they heard a knock at the door and when they opened they saw an unknown white male who was asking for help. He was bleeding and they phoned the police and emergency services. He collapsed on the scene and was certified dead by the paramedics,” she said.

No arrest have been made as yet and the police urge anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of the person or people involved to contact the station at (015) 230 1001 or (015) 230 1003.

Eagar is remembered by the family as a friendly, helpful and cheerful man. He is survived by his five-year-old son, his brothers, sister and his parents.

Funeral arrangements for Eagar have not yet been finalised due to financial constraints.
