Kruinies becomes friends with Polokwane Game Reserve

The Polokwane Game Reserve is a place where residents can cycle, run and hike away from city's noises. The reserve is also often visited by local schools where the learners get the opportunity to see wild animals in their habitat, and are educated on how to conserve the environment.

POLOKWANE – Gr 2 learners from Curro Heuwelkruin recently had a school trip to the reserve where they were treated to a lengthy game drive and even got to walk  an interpretive trail through the reserve.

Lisa Grossel from the WESSA Friends of Polokwane Nature Reserve and Nature’s Way Adventure Safaris who accompanied the learners, explained that for many of the children, the idea of walking through the bush was daunting but they soon warmed up to the idea once they realised there was far more to be learned than be frightened of.

The morning of learning ended up at the reserves very own environmental education center where a presentation with the theme Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Philosophy was given. The trip concluded with a picnic in the bush and the school presented WESSA Friends of Polokwane Nature Reserve with the money collected during the school annual Gr 2 money-raising collection for Wildlife. This money will be put to good use in various conservation projects earmarked for our community,” she added.

The group, Friends of Polokwane Game Reserve, will officially be launched on Thursday, 5 September at Oosskool’s hall.

The luanch aims to introduce the community to the objectives of this non-profit conservation organisation. Renowned ecologists will present a summary of the reserve’s importance and the wonderful natural aspects which it holds.
Grossel explained that membership enrolment will also take place during the evening and light refreshments will be enjoyed after the presentations.

“This evening is a must for anyone and everyone who has an affinity with the reserve, and is interested in its survival, for the sake of future generations.”
