Driver flees scene of fatal collision outside Marble Hall

Three people burned to death and two children were injured

LIMPOPO – The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal collision which happened on Sunday, 18 August at the N11 and R573 intersection.

In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said the a Nissan Navara and a Datsun sedan collided at around 18:00. After the accident the Datsun caught fire and three occupants inside were burnt beyond recognition. Two children, aged one and four, who were among the hawkers sitting alongside the road, were also injured in the accident.

Ngoepe added that the driver of the Navara abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. The cause of the accident is not known at this stage and the police have requested that the said driver report to the nearest police station to assist with investigations in the matter.

The three deceased are still unknown and the process of identification is still underway. The police urge anyone who can assist in their identification to go to Marble Hall Police Station.
