Swift reaction by the Police resulted in the arrest of seven suspects allegedly found in possession of, among others, unlicensed firearms, live ammunition and suspected stolen vehicles in Dennilton last week.
According to Maphure Manamela of the Provincial Police Communications Centre the suspects were expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court earlier this week.
She indicated that Police received a tip-off about suspects allegedly offloading weapons from a vehicle at a house on a smallholding outside Dennilton.
An intelligence-driven joint operation was immediately activated and upon their arrival at the scene five suspects ran in different directions in an effort to evade arrest. Police gave chase and all were apprehended, according to Manamela.
She added that Police continued their investigations into the house where two more suspects in hiding were arrested. Two rifles, 56 rounds of live ammunition, a military belt, 13 cell phones, five pairs of gloves, a work suit and two vehicles were confiscated.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the recovered Nissan bakkie was reported stolen in Pretoria earlier this month.
