Phindulo Tshamano, a seven-years-old Grade 2 learner at Pietersburg Comprehensive School (PCS), is considered to have the scholastic ability of a Grade 12 learner.
She can read features and articles in magazines, newspapers, novels and story books eloquently and with ease.
PCS Head of Foundation Phase, Matodzi Raselabe described Phindulo as a rare find in the phase. “We are all amazed by her abilities. Other learners in her grade are not fluent yet in reading. She also assists her fellow learners who are struggling to read and they relate well with her. She is a top learner in her class and we are blessed to have someone of her calibre at the school,” Raselabe said.
Phindulo says she aspires to write a book before the end of this year. “I have not yet decided on the title of the book yet but it will be a storybook. I want to read my own books with my classmates.” She also added that she was looking forward to represent her school at the Department of Education’s Spelling and Reading competition in August.
“I think she will do well at the competition and she has proven herself in the classroom and we will give her necessary support,” Raselabe concluded.
