The newly appointed Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lehlogonolo Masoga is confident that he will soon share good news about the project with Limpopo residents as he indicated that it was his duty to make the much awaited programme a reality.
Masoga, the former Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, reported for duty a fortnight ago after resigning as the African National Congress Member of the Provincial Legislature. He appreciated the trust and confidence the SEZ Board has shown in him that he was the right person to lead the project. He stated that he was looking forward to sharing good news with residents in a few months’ time, adding that he was committed to make the planned SEZ a reality. Masoga further clarified that he was only appointed to lead the Musina-Makhado SEZ while another team was responsible for the envisaged Tubatse SEZ.
“On 26 August a provincial delegation led by Economic Development, Environment and Tourism MEC Thabo Mokone would depart to the People’s Republic of China. We will spend two weeks in China meeting with investors and operators. During our stay there, we will also participate in industrialisation conference led by the Department of Trade and Industry in Beijing,” Masoga explained.
Masoga is anticipated to provide the leadership required to maintain the progress of the SEZ as it allegedly continues to bring about much needed foreign investment in Limpopo. According to information made available to Polokwane Observer last Thursday, his appointment comes merely a month after the deployment of former Provincial Treasury MEC Rob Tooley as the Chairperson of the SEZ Board.
Tooley was quoted in a statement to have said the appointment of Masoga is a key step in the right direction and his appointment was expected to fulfil the mandate of the provincial SEZ strategic vision. He expressed his excitement and added that Masoga is an accomplished leader and administrator, who brings more than a decade of executive management and political experience in both government and the legislature. The board is confident that Masoga will provide the necessary leadership to operations of the SEZ, Tooley said.
He added that the board has entrusted him with the responsibilities to restore the province’s economic capacity to produce goods and services competitively as well as to attract more investment from both domestic and the international world.
