The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo condemned the brutal killing of fellow comrades, Vaaltyn Kekana and Ralph Kanyane, who were reportedly shot and killed in Mokopane recently.
A statement issued after an ordinary PEC meeting at Frans Mohlala House on Monday
by the party Provincial Secretary, Soviet Lekganyane indicated that the PEC reaffirmed its confidence in the ability and capacity of law enforcement agencies to successfully investigate the killings and get to the bottom of the problem. The committee further called on members of the public who may have evidence or provide leads to act responsibly and patriotically by submitting to the Police to assist the investigations. The killings in the province irritate the public and the PEC therefore requests the law enforcement agencies to strengthen their efforts, Lekganyane stressed.
He further stated that leaders and the public should stop with public spats and throwing profanities at each another as these does not assist the ANC and the bereaved families. “The PEC did not take kindly the libellous statements that were made against the leadership of the ANC in the province, in particular the Provincial Chairperson Stan Mathabatha during the period of mourning for the gallant comrades. The PEC expresses unwavering support to Mathabatha and solidly believes in his abilities to lead the organisation and government administration to greater heights,” Lekganyane explained.
He went on to reveal that as part of ongoing political and organisational programme of the party leadership of engaging with branches and members, Deputy Secretary-General of the ANC Jessie Duarte would visit the Mogalakwena sub-region from Friday until Sunday. He added that the ANC would on Sunday and Monday hold a party caucus lekgotla in the Waterberg region to assess the state of readiness of the ANC party caucus, strengthen and enable it to provide the necessary oversight to government.
The PEC further reiterated its call on the leadership of government to ensure that service delivery in the province is enhanced and that programmes aimed at uplifting socio-economic conditions of the people are implemented without delays or compromise, Lekganyane said and added that the committee had noted the developments of the recent past where President Cyril Ramaphosa came under attack from forces that sought to undermine and derail the unity, renewal, and cohesion project.
He went on to highlight that the PEC expressed its unwavering support to Ramaphosa and called upon the people of the province and the country to afford the President the necessary support to enable him and the entire collective to lead the movement and South Africa without being derailed.
