[UPDATE] Rubber bullets and tear gas used to disperse protesters in Mokopane

Residents are asked to avoid the CBD. 

MOKOPANE – Protesters scattered and ran for safety when police shot rubber bullets and tear gas to stop them from marching to the Mogalakwena Municipality.

Some injuries were reported.

A police helicopter was deployed and residents are asked to avoid the CBD.


MOKOPANE – Protesters have taken to the streets of Mokopane despite not getting approval from the police.

This, after police, denied them the opportunity to protest peacefully following negotiations earlier this morning.

Protesters told Bosveld they came to march and they will march. The large crowd is currently gathered outside the Mogalakwena Municipality where the gates are blockaded by police.

Earlier, main roads leading into and out of Mokopane were closed by the traffic department and buses transporting protesters barred from entering.
