Unlicensed firearms, ammunition confiscated as police pounce on seven suspects

Police Spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela says police received a tip-off on Thursday, 8 August 2019 about unknown suspects offloading firearms from a vehicle at a house near the Five Morgan Plots.

LIMPOPO – Speedy reaction by police in Dennilton led to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of various items including, unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as a stolen vehicle.

Police Spokesperson, Constable Maphure Manamela says police received a tip-off on Thursday, 8 August 2019 about unknown suspects offloading firearms from a vehicle at a house near the Five Morgan Plots.

“A joint operation was activated and on arrival, five suspects ran out in different directions, on foot, but police gave chase and all were apprehended,” she explained.

– Two rifles
– Two rifle magazines
– 56 rounds of ammunition
– One military belt
– 13 cellphones
– Five pairs of gloves
– One work suit
– A White VW polo
– One Nissan NP200 bakkie.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the recovered NP 200 bakkie was reported stolen at the Sinoville Police Station in Pretoria, earlier this month. Further investigations will still be conducted to determine the origin of the other recovered items and possible linkage of the suspects to other offences,” Ngoepe added.

The suspects will appear before the Moutse Magistrate’s Court, soon, on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and possession of presumed stolen property.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, has applauded the swift reaction of Dennilton police.
