Man arrested at border with R1,75 million in cash

A 24-year-old man was arrested by police at the Stockpoort Border Post, as he was intending to cross the border into Botswana.

 

POLOKWANE – Investigations into the origin of the R1,75 million in cash have begun after the arrest of a 24-year-old man at the Stockpoort Border Post in the Lephalale policing area on Wednesday, 7 August.

In a statement released, Police Spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe said police were busy with daily routine duties when the arrest occurred.

“He intended to cross the border into Botswana and when police searched the rental vehicle, they discovered a bag full of banknotes in the boot,” he said.

The man appeared in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 August, on a charge of money laundering and was remanded until 15 August for formal bail application.
