Cheap pencils to draw Linnda’s big dreams

Growing up, Linnda David Muronga was a creative child, but little did he know he could make a living from it.

LIMPOPO – The 22-year-old, who was born and raised in Khalavha village, said he loves drawing because it makes him feel free. “Drawing gives me a chance to escape from everyday life into a creative space. Art means a lot to me and I believe that it will change my life. Art is my first love and I will never neglect it, because it would be to neglect the true roots of who I am. I believe that the only way to share in someone else’s imagination, is through art. Everyone is born with a talent and it is up to you to utilise your talent effectively, it can put bread on the table for you. I thank God for giving me this talent and strive to honour it,” Linnda said.

Linnda started drawing at a young age.

“I remember when I was in Gr R, we used to make art using mud. I had a friend at school who was good at drawing and learnt a lot from him.”

He said that he was raised in a family that loves art. “My father, Moses, tells me that he was good at drawing but did not go far, due to the background he grew up in. I believe that I take after him and he together with my siblings, always encourage me to do more.”

Motivation and appreciation are the driving forces behind his drawings. He told CV he uses pencils for his drawings. “I use pencils for my sketches of prominent people. I believe that it is not about the materials that you use, but rather about the artistic skills that you possess. An artist once asked me which pencils I use and he did not believe me when I told him that I use cheap pencils,” he said.

Linnda decided to put more of his time into drawings and did not further his studies. “I want to raise money so that I can study art, because I’m passionate about it,” he added.

He aspires to be one the best artists in South Africa and also to sell his work internationally. Those interested in his art can contact him at 060 935 0314.
