POLOKWANE – A total of 2 937 suspects between the ages of 20 and 62-year-old have been arrested during intensive operations conducted in all clusters of the province, since the inception of ‘Operation Swara Tsotsi.

The operation was launched at the beginning of the sixth administration in June, after Premier Chupu Mathabatha assigned the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Dickson Masemola the task of eradicating crime in Limpopo. He has since been working with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Management and during a press briefing this morning said it continues to register results.

Masemola said the following items were recovered during the ongoing operation:
- 246 firearms
- 35 rounds of ammunition
- 31 dangerous weapons (30 knives and one pair of scissors)
- Four motor vehicles
- Three plasma TV’s
- 16 boxes of crystal meth
- Nine sachets of CAT
- Motor vehicle parts
- 41 knives
- A bulletproof vest
- Cellphones
- Laptops
- Counterfeit cigarettes
- Liquor
- Miscellaneous items
- Housebreaking instruments
- Large quantities of dagga, nyaope and cocaine
- International currency.
