Three men accused of stock theft stoned, set alight outside Lebowakgomo

The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Genl Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the brutal murders of three men in the Dithabeng village in gaMphahlele outside Lebowakgomo on Friday, 2 August 2019.

LIMPOPO – In a statement, Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the said incident comes after a man from an adjacent village Makurung, on Wednesday brought nine head of cattle to a premises in Dithabeng for safekeeping until he could organise a trailer to transport them.
The same man returned on Friday with a bakkie and a trailer, but before he could load the cattle, the community accosted a 46-year-old woman, whose premises was used to keep the said cattle, and threatened her until she pointed out the man who brought the cattle.

The group then allegedly grabbed the man and two others who were with him, stoned them and set them alight.

The police were called and on arrival found two men already dead and the third one engulfed in flames. He died on the way to hospital, said Mojapelo.

The victims are unknown at this stage and the ownership of the cattle has not yet been established. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the nearest police station or the 24-hour toll free number at 0860010111.

Ledwaba has since issued the order that those responsible for this inhuman ac,t be hunted down and brought to book. “The police will be merciless when dealing with people who resort to mob justice and kill those they suspect of being criminals.”
